These comments are for partners seeking positions who are approached directly by firms and will not market themselves.

1-Without meeting with a decent number of firms to know exactly what they will all offer you, there is no way to know that you are getting the best opportunity available. Most of us who want the very best deal on a purchase do not look at products in a piece meal fashion. People who want the best deal will not focus solely on the first opportunity or two that presents itself. There is no way to compare. We all deserve the best. Knowledge is power. We believe that most positions are far more critical than most of the purchases we make.

2-A firm that would directly pursue on their own a potential specific partner generally is seeking someone on their own terms, for their own benefit. The candidate’s interest in such cases in secondary to them despite what they tell you. They are banking on getting to you first, by massaging your ego so you won’t look at others firms. This ploy works well because some candidates are afraid to meet with various people because they have exaggerated fears or see opportunity seeking as somehow beneath them. The fact is many professionals have ego issues. It’s a detriment in seeking positions. The partners we have placed know they have gotten the best deal out there because they actually know in fact what is out there.

3-Candidates who are serious about finding the best opportunity will do so in a committed fashion full out. Hesitancy serves no one including the candidate and their clients. There is no effectiveness or power without being fully committed.
